Taijiquan Principles Workshop

1. Rooting

1. Establish and train to lower center of gravity
2. Learn how to work with a lower center.

2. Uprooting

1. Understand how to find a person’s center
2. Train how to uproot and maintain your center.

3. Understanding the Circle

1. Develop an awareness of how to apply Yin and Yang principles
2. Train on spiraling energy
3. Establish an understanding of circular motions (Large and small circles)
4. Apply the circle to rooting and uprooting in a practical manner

4. Projection

1. Establish an awareness of how to project energy, power, etc.
2. Use rooting, uprooting and the circle to project.
3. Establish an understanding of large and small projection

The workshop will consist of both individual and partner training exercises. Some of the training practices are tasking on the body (legs, arms, shoulders, etc.) but they are intended to cultivate stability, agility, relaxation, and focused intent.

This workshop is opened to all styles and types of Taiji practice (martial, exercise, health, etc.) because it will focus on principles of Taiji and not a particular style or form.

o Empty and Full
o Relaxation (waist, shoulders, breathing)
o Coordination of upper and lower body movements
o Moving from the center
o Hollow the chest; round the back
o Continuous and flowing movement
